Sans Serif is a client-relationship driven independent creative agency uniting world class design expertise and sleep-well project management. Last year, the agency launched an internal initiative focusing on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in the field of design, and committed to executing a project for an organization that aligned with its intentions of diversifying the design pipeline. Inspired by San Francisco-based 501(c)(3) not-for-profit Mission Bit’s efforts to support underrepresented youth of color in tech, and its exponential growth over the past 10 years, Sans Serif offered to rebrand Mission Bit to celebrate the organization’s success and augment its growth.

Through this process, Sans Serif gained a new appreciation for the far-reaching impacts that a new logo and visual identity system can deliver for such an ambitious enterprise.

According to Sans Serif’s Founder David Schultz, well-conceived logos distill core values, attributes, and emotions into a resonant brand story. He adds, “It’s always important to express that story in a unique, honest, and compelling way. The overall effect should inspire conversations and serve the organization as it continues to evolve.”

Sans Serif Strategist Jason Wyman used these words to describe the final project outcome: “Strategically, verbally, and visually, we distilled the strength and vibrancy of an organization that has already empowered so many.”

Laying the groundwork for the collaboration involved in-depth conversations with Mission Bit CEO Christina Ortega, Director of Curriculum Cora Monokandilos, and Director of Programs Cynthia Chin about the organization’s outlook and opportunities. “Collaborating with an agency that works with some of the most prominent companies in Silicon Valley meant the opportunity to refresh our brand in a way that would create more visibility for the critical work we do at Mission Bit.”

Revealed in time for the organization’s 10th anniversary gala event back in November, Mission Bit has released a short documentary video from the event, which shows how the rebrand is helping to build recognition for its past accomplishments, and excitement for its future.
